Instructions
To set up the Communication Adapter, perform the following steps:

Step 1
Connect the 7X-1425 RS232 cable to an available Serial Port on your PC and to the Service Tool connector on the Communication Adapter.

Step 2
Connect the 139-4166 Unicable to the Control connector on the Communication Adapter and to the service
connector on the product that you are servicing. You are now ready to start your Car Diagnostic Tool.

Note:
Caterpillar Communication Adapter (7X1701) does not support J1939 data link.

Instructions
Perform the following steps to set up the Pro-Link 9000:

Step 1
Insert the MPSI Caterpillar Cartridge in the Pro-Link?9000.

Step 2
Connect the Pro-Link 9000 to your PC’s serial port using the MPSI PC/Terminal cable.

Step 3
Connect the Pro-Link 9000 to the product and turn the ignition key of the vehicle on to power the Pro-Link.

Step 4
Select Pro-Link from the main menu or push the “Func” key to recall data if no engine data is received.

Step 5
Select the Com Adapter Link function from the Pro-Link menu, and push “Enter” to initiate the Com Adapter Link mode. The Pro-Link will display a screen showing that the Com Adapter Link is active. You are now ready to start the Caterpillar SIS.

4. “MDI TURNS OFF IMMEDIATELY WHEN DISCONNECTED FROM THE VEHICLE”

My using experience about Autel MaxiSYS Elite

I have been a Ford Master Technician for 30 years and used about every brand diagnostic scanner over the years and this one is hands down the best and most universal scanner I have used to date! Never once have I had an issue with the Blue Tooth connection between the scanner and the VCM II unlike what we use at Ford. Programs keys perfectly, bi-directional controls work flawless and is very fast processing of live data….WAY faster than Snap On Versus and the software especially for Ford is almost identical to Fords software with the IDS we use at the dealership…I actually prefer my Autel over the IDS now.

Autel Scanner would not connect with some vehicles, then with all vehicles. This cable solved the issues, and now all is well. As the site says, have a spare on hand. It will keep you from being out of the game and it is the common failure point due to USER “use” (or abuse…LOL)

The scanner can be charged with the charge cable or you can plug the charge cable into the stand and then simply set the scanner in and out of the stand as needed and it stays charged when docked between uses. I have it set up on my shops WiFi and it lets me know when there are updates and they update often which I also like.

The Autel MaxiSYS Elite can also be used as a tablet, has great resolution and does everything Snap On’s scanners do for a fraction of the price!

This is a nice heavy unit, not cheap and doesn’t feel cheap in your hands, comes with about every adapter you could ever need foreign and domestic for PCM hook up and can be easily expanded for oscilloscope and other options.

It is an amazing product, I would to thank to the people that helped me with my scanner I really appreciate it. The Professional Diagnostic Tool works very well and I’m happy with it. My only complaint is that I didn’t try one much sooner!!!

2.“No Connection” error solved

Here is the detail explanation of GM MDI WIFI multiple diagnostic system “no connection” error and solution.

Problem:

When get the GM MDI tool from www.cnautotool.com connected with computer and plugged into car’s DLC OBD port, only two of the indicator light flashed while the other two are off. And then the GM MDI software system displayed “no connection” error message. See Fig.1 and Fig. 2.

Possible reason:
Improper operation procedure leads to the communication failure.

Solution:

Quit the GM MDI software and disconnect the GM MDI main unit
Open MDI Manager to check the driver
Open “Network setup” to check the network condition
If your MDI Manager shows a connection with your MDI and says software is compatible with pc, it is OK.
Reconnect the MDI device and load software again.

Follow the correction connection procedure and settings:

USB connection:

Once install and run the MDI manager, power up the MDI tester using the A/C 12-volt adapter. Then connect it to your computer with via USB cable.  The  automotive scan tool MDI appears in the application’s Explorer window where all the MDI units detected by your PC.

WIFI wireless connection:

1) Click MDI_Manager icon to start the MDI Manager software
2) Connect MDI with PC using USB cable
3) Power on the MDI by plugging in the A/C 12-volt adapter
4) Select and Connect to your MDI in the MDI Manager software MDI Explorer tab.
5) Select “Network Setup”
6) Select “Wireless” tab.
7) Select “Enable Wireless Interface check box in the Interface Control box to enable the interface. Once you enable the interface, the IP Address Configuration box and the Apply and Cancel buttons become active.
8) Select Obtain an IP address automatically if your LAN automatically assigns IP addresses. Otherwise enter the assigned IP Address and Subnet mask.
9) Select “Access Point” to start wireless access configuration.
10) If you are not within range of the access point you want to use, or the access point is not broadcasting its SSID, select the Enter Network Name [SSID]: radio button and type the network name.
11) If you are within range of your wireless access point, choose the Select from available network list radio button and then select Refresh to cause the MDI to search for wireless network signals. The detected networks are displayed in the Network Name box.
12) Select Configure after you have entered the network name
13) Enter the security setting that are required by your network, then select Next.
14) Select Yes to re-configure your MDI, or if you want to start over select No.
15) Select OK.
16) Choose the Properties tab to verify that the MDI is configured correctly.
17) Write down previous settings you did for future reference.

NOTE:

Installing the MDI Manager software installs certain utilities that are required for your TIS2Web programs to use the MDI. But, it is not necessary to start the MDI Manager software before using TIS2Web programs.

Caterpillar Communication Adapter III Kit

Caterpillar Comm Adapter III – diagnostic scanner interface is a CAT group dealer workshop diagnostic tool built to work with Caterpillar heavy vehicles and Caterpillar engines. It is the latest generation of the CAT Communication Adapter group and replaces the CAT Comm Adapter II & the old 466-6258 and 317-7487 tool number.

How-to Setup a MicroPod II for wiTECH 2

DESCRIPTION

If your dealership purchased a new microPOD and you would like to convert your existing microPOD for using with wiTECH 2.0 System, you need to download and install the microPOD Setup Utility to configure/setup your microPOD for Chrysler wiTech MicroPod 2.

NOTE: microPODs with a serial number beginning with “WFP” should NOT be used with this utility.

PROCEDURE

If you have a restricted network, you must first make sure that all sites listed below are enabled to be able to successfully use microPOD Setup Utility and the wiTECH 2.0 System.

Steps to download and install the microPOD Setup Utility

IMPORTANT: Once the microPOD is configured using the microPOD Setup Utility, all the microPOD Wireless Settings will be deleted. You will be required to follow the instructions from the KB link titled “How to configure a Wireless Profile on a microPOD II”.

To download the application, please login to DealerCONNECT > Service > wiTECH Information > microPod Setup Utility

The install wizard will appear to install the wiTECH Driver x64 onto your computer if your PC has not been installed with wiTECH 1.0 application.

Read the License Agreement carefully, and accept the terms in the license agreement. Then, click “Next” to continue.

Note: After microPOD Setup Utility is ran, all existing wireless networks will be removed from the microPOD.

Important! Leave the microPod Setup Utility window running as you will be required to complete software updates to the microPod device before configuring the wireless.

Login into wiTECH 2.0 at https://login.n.fcawitech.com . The microPOD II that was just configured using the microPOD Setup Utility should appear in the  car diagnostic scanner wiTECH 2.0 discovery . You will need to update the operating system of your microPOD II before it can be used with wiTECH 2.0. Click “Continue”, and your web browser will redirect you to the page to download and install the operating system update as seen in the following step.

*NOTE: If microPOD II does not show up in discovery after a couple of minutes please power cycle your microPOD II by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

Click “Update Now” and your microPOD II should continue to the update screen. Once updating, do not interrupt your microPOD II at any point until the update is complete.

*NOTE: This can take upwards of 9 minutes. It is normal activity for the microPOD II to reboot.

Click “OK” and you will be navigated back to the wiTECH 2.0 discovery page. Your microPOD II should appear updated and ready for use.
